Lithium thionyl chloride battery is abbreviated as lithium sub-battery. Its negative electrode is lithium metal (Li), and its positive electrode active material is its electrolyte solvent, namely thionyl chloride (SOCl2). Due to its special chemical characteristics and passivation effect, its annual self-discharge current is less than 1%, and its storage life is more than 10 years, so it is widely used as a power source in water meters, electric meters and gas meters.

 

Mainly used in applications such as the Internet of Things, smart homes, smart meters, military electronic instruments, alarm/security equipment, GPS positioning trackers, automotive electronics, professional electronic equipment, etc.

The negative electrode of the lithium thionyl chloride battery is metal lithium (Li), the internal positive electrode active material and the electrolyte solvent are both thionyl chloride (SOCl2), the rated voltage is 3.6V, and there are two shapes of cylindrical and button shapes, from 1/ Sizes from 2AA to D, the winding structure is used for high current, and the carbon-packed structure is used for small current. Lithium thionyl chloride batteries are characterized by high energy density, partly because of their high nominal voltage of 3.6V. 3.6V, D size, 19Ah carbon-packed structure battery energy density can reach 760Wh / Due to the extremely low self-discharge rate, this battery can support a long storage period, with a service life of 10-20 years.

 

There are two types of lithium thionyl chloride lithium batteries to choose from: carbon-packed and wound structure. The carbon-packed structure of the battery cell is particularly suitable for low self-discharge, and the storage life is 10-20 years. Large capacity, small size, and the ability to withstand large pressure fluctuations, temperature and shock make the carbon-packed structure of the battery very suitable for remote monitoring applications. However, more and more applications require high current pulses, and wound batteries are ideal for high pulse current applications. In addition, the battery impedance of the wound structure is relatively small. ("M" stands for winding structure)
